Alexander III AR Tetradrachm. Rhodes mint, struck 201-190 BC. Head of Herakles right in lionskin / Zeus seated left with eagle (Garuda) & scepter (Sudarshan as in Puri the Sudarshan is a Rod); Rose (Representing Goddess Rhoda) & magistrate AINHTWP before, PO under throne.

This link shows a small example of the massive amount of proof of Bhakti Ananda Goswami’s Thesis. These Coins of ancient Rhodes have symbols of Helios Kouros and Rhode, Krishna and Radha, and the Heliopolitan Federation Polieus / Purusha and Tyche related City-States. See for yourselves!

These primarily Rhodon Coins of Rhodes usually feature a portrait of Helios (Egyptian HERU-AUSU, Semitic Biblical ELI-YAHU, Indic HARI-VASUdeva), Who is always Meghistos KOUROS (KRISHNA), the Original Supreme and ever-new Beautiful Youth/Kouros. Also in an-iconic Form on these Coins is the RHODON or ‘Rose’ symbol of RHODE (RADHA), the Rhode-Kore Feminine Counterpart of Helios Kouros / Krishna.

Other Symbols on these Rhodian Coins reveal both the alter-Forms of Helios Kouros and Kore, as well as those other ancient City States that were Members of the various ancient Rhodes-related Heliopolitan Religious and ‘Political’ Polieus / Purusha / Pharaoh ‘Nome-Arch’ Monarch Federations.

These Coins of Rhodes are only one of the many kinds of interdisciplinary evidence that I used in support of my 1983-1985 Master’s Degree Thesis. For example the other City Emblems on the Coins represent Heliopolitan Polieus and Tyche (Purusha and Prakriti) Sacred Nome-Arch (Monarch) Cities that were in the Rhodian Sea Trade Asyla Federations of that time. I have studied these Rhodes-related Heliopolitan Religious Asyla Federations over the centuries from many different perspectives, using numerous kinds of evidence.

pbabe043_radharaniFor example, during the 1960s, 70s and 80s I read the entire available corpus of classical and other Greek and Roman literatures and inscriptions (histories, plays, treaties, laws, epigraphic evidence, coinage etc.) and compared the evidence in these literary sources with the Greco-Roman, Semitic and Afro-Egyptian literaray epigraphic and physical evidence of city and maritime sites. The evidence showed that over thousands of years the same peoples continued to re-establish religious and mutual defence and trade alliances with each other, and these Rhodian and Heliopolis related Alliances or Federations included Indo-Europeans, Semites and Afro-Egyptians.

Thus during any particular era of evidence, wherever we look we can find abundant proof of these alliances and who belonged to them as the changing political, military, economic and religious realities of the times dictated. If we ‘pull the thread’ of this evidence to the East, we find direct connections between the Rhodian related Heliopolitan Alliances and Krishna-Vishnu and Siva Worship in India, and Pure Land Related Buddhism in the rest of the Orient.

Also please note a correction regarding the captions. RHODA not RHODOS should be the caption when the feminine RHODA / RADHA is intended. Greek and Sankrit Names are gendered. For example dasa and dasi mean ‘servant’ (of) in the masculine and feminine respectively. Originally these suffixes were actually NAMES of the Lord and Shakti.

In Greek the Purusha Masculine and Prakriti Feminine sufixes are -OS and -A, as in Rhodos and Rhoda. On Their Sacred Lotus Isle of Rhodes, Helios Kouros (Krishna) was also called RHODOS, Nymphos and Asteros, and Radha was called HALIA, KORE, RHODA, NYMPHIA (LOTUS) and ASTERIA (STAR, TARA).

Thus the Supreme Couple was Rhoda-Rhodos, Nymphia-Nymphos and Asteria-Asteros, Kore-Kouros, Halia-Helios etc. In Rome these Radha-Krishna related pairs were evident in the worship of Jupiter and Juno MARIMUS and MARINA (NARAYANA and NARAYANI), and JUVENALIS and JUVENTA, Krishna and Radha Nava-YAUVANA and YAUVANI.

Symbols on ancient Federation Coins ALWAYS identify very specific things, such as the Polieus and Tyche-Fortuna (Lakshmi) of the City where the coin was minted, and the Federation that the coinage is the legal medium of exchange for. Also on the coin can be the symbols of the other cities where the coin is legal tender. Please note that the Coins of Rhodes have symbols for the main Deities of the Rhodian Alliances and these INCLUDE the Palms and Palm Fronds of JERICHO-Jerusalem and Israel-Judea!

Mauryan Empire Balaram Coin 3-2 Cent BC

Mauryan Empire Balaram Coin 3-2 Cent BC

During the Bactrian and related Kushana Eras of the Greek Kings of North West Greater India, so many Tyche-Polieus City Laxmi coins were minted that some of them are still in use in the markets today. Thus numismatists, those who study coins, medals and seals, have a vast treasure trove of evidence for the connections that I am always writing about. Back as early as the 1960s when I was first collecting references for my master’s degree research project, I was studying such ‘miniatures’ and saw hundreds of examples of coins, medals amulets, signet rings and carthouches / scarabs seals etc. proving the religious and political alliances and other relationships between the ancient Devotees of the Lord. For example, during the Era of the Greek Kings of N W India, Coins with Krishna Partha Sarathi (the Driver of Arjuna’s 4 Horse War Chariot) on them were the SAME AS THOSE of Helios Quadrigos. The Dias-KOUROI were the ASVINS etc. In this way one can use the THOUSANDS of such ancient coins and other miniatures to prove the connections that I have been describing for the last 40+ years.

Regarding the identity of the Greeks a devotee stated “I just found this comment as the reference in the Vedabase: At a meeting in 1973, he [Srila Prabhupada] told Arnold Toynbee that the Greeks came from India. ‘Vedic culture was once all over the world. Gradually a new type of culture-just like this recent partition of India and Pakistan-took place’ (730722RC.LON). Many times he said that five thousand years ago, the entire planet was known as Bharatavarsa and was ‘under Vedic culture.’ Mahabharata is thus the history of ‘greater Bharatavarsa.’ The culture was gradually lost, the social disruption beginning from the degeneration of the brahmanas and then the ksatriyas.”

Much of the confusion that exists among Gaudiya Vaishnavas regarding the Greeks is that ‘The Greeks’ were made up of a variety of tribes over thousands of years of history, and so there is really no ‘The Greeks’ as such. Thus What Srila Prabhupada meant by ‘The Greeks’ or what the ‘Yavanas’ meant in any particular reference must be carefully defined for any real understanding. Hellenes, Rhodians, Cretans, Dorians, Telechines, Ionians, Athenians, Spartans etc….’Greek’ speaking Africans and Semites, Greeks in Rome….Greek Bactrian Rulers in N W India….Greeks by ‘race’, culture, religion or Alliance Politics… what was meant by ‘Greek’ or Hellene etc. over thousands of years and miles? The answers are extremely complex, but most ISKCON-related Vaishnavas have just a one-liner understanding that ‘the Greeks came from India’

(NOTE: All the same Iconic emblems, aniconic symbols, interpersonal relationships, associations, names, characteristics and theological connotations present in the Indic Radha Krishna tradition are present in the Ancient Mediterranean Rhoda Kouros tradition. It is not just similar it is an exact duplicate at every level. There are too many commonalities for it to be mere coincidence and even mainstream academia now accepts that the original language of the region was intimately related to Sanskrit rather than just being part of the Indo-Euro family.

Ironically there is far more evidence for the ancient worship of Radha Krishna in ancient Greece than there is in India. In fact there is no known evidence of ancient Radha Krsna worship in India, thus many scholars have attempted to deny that it is even a part of the authentic and original Vedic/Hindu religion. Ancient Greece has preserved many elements of a tradition focused upon Krishna’s Vrindavan Leela. Neither is this evidence proving that it is a Greek invention. Rather because it is an actual ongoing Spiritual reality, a current in which only devotion allows one access, the worship of Radha Krsna and Balaram has a universal presence and appeal.

Most people are confused regarding ancient Greek religion not knowing that the ‘Greek religion’ they are familiar with is the very late invention of a people long fragmented and divorced from the original tradition. In short the Homeric version of Greek religion is an invention that was considered as blasphemy by Plato and many other Greek traditionalists. Yet today only Homer’s version of Greek religion featuring insane murderous divinities is taught and recognized. Once again by accessing the unbroken Vedic traditional lineages we are provided with an accurate understanding of ancient Greek religion that is in synch with the philosophy and religious outlook of Plato and other ancient Greek traditionalists. 1. From Bhakti Ananda Goswami: These Coins of Rhodes are only one of the many kinds of interdisciplinary evidence that I used in support of my 1983-1985 Master’s Degree Thesis. For example, during the 1960s, 70s and 80s I read the entire available corpus of classical and other Greek and Roman literatures and inscriptions (histories, plays, treaties, laws, epigraphic evidence, coinage etc.) and compared the evidence in these literary sources with the Greco-Roman, Semitic and Afro-Egyptian literaray epigraphic and physical evidence of city and maritime sites.

Also please note a correction in the above captions.
