It is not possible to grasp the profound relationship between the Judeo-Christian Tradition and the Indic Vaishnavism of Sri Sri Radha-Krishna and Baladeva without approaching Christianity through Catholicism, and Catholicism’s authentic Greek, Hebrew, Egyptian and other Jewish Sources. One such Source is in the Greek Jewish Septuagint, found in the Books of the Catholic Bible which describe an Era in the region, just before the advent of Christ. These Books from the ancient Greek Septuagint have been entirely left out of the Protestant King James Bible, and generally have not been included in Protestant Bibles. They are not spurious Gnostic so-called ‘Gospels’, and should be read to understand what Judaism WAS in that region, during the immediate centuries of Christ’s Pre-Advent Era. Furthermore, the entire Septuagint, or original ancient Greek version of the Jewish Scriptures, read in the original Greek, reveals the most astounding truth: IT IS CLEARLY A VAISHNAVA ‘VEDIC’ TEXT!
If one was to create a Sanskrit Dictionary of Krishna-centric Sanskrit Scriptures, inscriptions and other writings from the same or previous eras, and compare the Indo-European cognate words, Deity Names etc. in the Greek Septuagint Books with those of the appropriate eras of the Sanskrit Language of the Krishna Tradition, it would be obvious that the Traditions were CLOSELY RELATED! Today we can even appreciate this if we take our prejudicial blinders off to comprehend that a Jewish synagein (synagogue) of tzaddics is a sangam of sadhakas (sadhu sanga). Actually synagein is the people, the sanga assembly itself, and only the place by association, and traditionally the Tzadik is a holy man (CHasidic).

Now here is another amazing fact…even though racist Aryanists have tried for more than the last 100 years to convince humanity that the Semites of Judaism (and Christianity), and the Africans were not Aryans, and worshiped a DIFFERENT GOD OR GODS FROM THOSE OF THE ARYANS, the truth is that ‘ARYAN’ did not originally mean ‘WHITE’ from combining the root AR and the ‘related-to’ yn/ym/jn/gn/ian/ima/ean/ene etc. suffix. Nor did it denote a single physical race! Instead this word appears in many cognate forms in other languages, where it means ‘of, from or related-to’ HARI, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, just like Gandhi’s use of HARI-JANA. Thus the Jewish Deity ELI in His Multi-form was the ELOHIMA, and Abraham and the Hebrews, Israelites and Jews who worshiped ELI/HARI were all ARYANS. The Afro-Egyptians who worshiped HERU were Aryans, and the Greeks who worshiped HELI were Aryans (Hellenes).
So it should not surprize us to learn that not only does the Greek Jewish Scripture, the Septuagint, have numerous Krishna-centric Vaishnava related names and terms in it, but that the Hebrew and Egyptian sacred literatures of ELI and HERU do too! Since God Eli’s ‘Old Testement’ Hebrew name for His Revealed Knowledge is YEDA, and His Septuagint Era Greek and then New Testament Era Greek Revealed Knowledge-word is OIDA (To Know), how can we deny that these two Bhakti Traditions’ Scriptures are also VEDA?
Some years ago, after I pointed out to Paramadvaiti Swamiji that Yeda, Oida and Veda all meant God-Revealed Knowledge (directly seen or percieved, ie revealed!) Srila Paramadvaiti Swami pursued this subject of Oida, and with great insight and wisdom is now nicely presenting his own many realizations about the healing effect of sacred knowledge, for the benefit of all. Here is his OIDA THERAPY website….

BA G So if the God-revealed Knowledge of the Hebrew Jewish Bible (Yeda) and the Greek Jewish and Catholic Bible (Oida) is VEDA, what is the devotional hymn tradition included in these Texts, such as that of the Psalms? Again the word PSALMS has come into English from the Greek Septuagint. And again if we compare the Three Traditions Veda, Yeda & Oida, both the Vedic Samans of Sama Veda, and the Biblical Psalms ( pronounced ˈsämz, ˈsälmz, ˈsȯmz) of the Book of Psalms, are the content, the words with melodies and meters, of liturgical manuals of songs to be sung in the Temple services of Hari and Eli!

Pronunciation: \ˈsämz, ˈsälmz, ˈsȯmz\ Function: noun plural but singular in construction : a collection of sacred poems forming a book of canonical Jewish and Christian Scripture — see bible table table
BA G Regardless of how these words, Sanskrit SAMA and Greek Biblical PSALMS (ˈsämz, ˈsälmz, ˈsȯmz) are interpreted today, they obviously refer to the same thing, the contents of a ‘Book’ or manual of liturgical music.
Other than three sacred collections of revealed knowledge VEDA/YEDA/OIDA, and the fact that these bodies of literature all include a manual of SAMAN/PSALMS for liturgical use, many specific cult terms and some of the actual Names of the Jewish God, and His many by-Names, appear in cognate or translated forms in the Rig Veda and other essential Vaishnava and Shaivite Scriptures and Holy Name Litanies. Some of these Holy Names also appear in the texts, litanies and inscriptions of the Main HERU-ASU-ATUM Religions of Egypt, and its many related cults in Africa, Europe (Rome etc) and the Near East.
What about the Rites of Hari/Eli, for example the Purusha worship at the core of the Rig Vedic Sacrificial System? A detailed comparison of these again reveals astounding connections.
My old English etymological dictionary gave English RITUAL, RITE, Latin RITU, RITUS, Greek ARITHMOS (because of the mantra chanting RHYTHM meter of ritual) and Sanskrit RT, RITYA. The importance of this word is lost in the forms of Protestantism where there are no MASS RITES or other ancient RITUALS, except perhaps Baptism and Anointing.

But because of the Catholic adherence to Guru Shastra And Sadhu, the RT, RITYA Rituals of the Rig and other Vedic Texts have come down to us in the various MASS RITES OF CATHOLICISM. These MOKSHA RITYAS all celebrate the manumission or RELEASE (MISSA, MOKSHA, MUKTI) OF SOULS, THE LIBERATION OF THE JIVA SELF, FROM THE BONDAGE OF SIN AND DEATH, THROUGH THE INTERCESSORY SELF-SACRIFICE OF THE COSMIC PURUSHA! He ‘takes the sins of the world’ and is slain on the YUPA STAKE AXIS MUNDI OF CREATION. THUS THIS STAKE/CROSS IS HIS EMBLEM AND HE IS CALLED YUPA DHVAJA ‘THE ONE WHOSE FLAG/ENSIGNIA IS THE YUPA’. At the moment of consecration, the Brahmin or RT Priest, who performs PURUSHA’s sacrificial MASS RITE / MOKSHA RITYA acts IN PERSONNA PURUSHA, JUST AS THE CATHOLIC PRIEST ACTS IN PERSONNA CHRIST. Then the ‘remnants’ of the Eucharistic sacrificial RITE offering having BECOME the embodiment, THE REAL PRESENCE of PURUSHA/POLIEUS, and they are received by the faithful as PRASADAM or PURUSHA-IDAM the ‘remnants of the Sacrifice of Purusha’ !
IN VAISHNAVISM, IN THE MELCHEZEDEK AND NAZARITE TRADITIONS OF JESUS CHRIST’S JUDAISM, AND IN CATHOLICISM, ONLY OFFERINGS OF ‘BREAD AND WINE’ OR OTHER NON- BLOODY OFFERINGS ARE MADE. NO ANIMALS ARE SUBSTITUTED FOR PURUSHA, AND NO HUMAN SACRIFICES ARE ALLOWED EITHER. THESE THREE TRADITIONS, VAISHNAVISM, ASCETIC JUDAISM AND CATHOLICISM (AND RELATED PURE LAND BUDDHISM AND SATTVIC THEISTIC SHAIVISM), ARE SATTVIC TRADITIONS OF PURUSHA WORSHIP, NOT RAJARSHIC TRADITIONS THAT RITUALLY SACRIFICE AND EAT ANIMALS, OR TAMASIC TRADITIONS THAT RITUALLY SACRIFICE AND EAT HUMANS.
So in conclusion to this little introduction to the comparative study of these related Great Bhakti Traditions, let me reassert that to really understand the connections, FIRST one must honor these Traditions, which all honor GURU SHASTRA AND SADHU. These Traditions with their sampradayas zealously preserve their texts and commentaries, their histories, rituals, songs, music and sacred arts…..they are the only way that we in our time have any continuity with the near or remote past of our religious cultures. These Traditions are ‘self aware’ that they HAVE and ARE something special in the history of the world…that they are conduits of Godhead’s Love and Mercy. These Traditions are God’s guardians, preservers and promulgators of Dharma and Justice, Purusha’s benevolent sacramental social order, the sciences and arts….These Traditions are spiritual and material life to humanity, because they sum up and communicate everything revealed and acheived before, gifting it to each new generation.
May we treat their Scriptures, Priests, Teachers and Saints with the utmost respect, as we begin this study of their common origins in the remote past, and how they developed sometimes in contact with eachother, and sometimes apart.
“The next step is for these traditions to realise that there are other equally legitimate lineages with the SAME ORIGIN who feel just as uniquely blessed and ‘chosen’ as themselves.”
Wishing you all Divine Love and Peace, Bhakti Ananda Goswami
